Corporate Finance Director


PEM are the largest independent firm of accountants and business advisers in Cambridge. They have been in business over 140 years and work with a diverse range of client in a wide range of industries including: Technology, Property Professional firms, Medical, Agriculture, Charities, Cambridge Colleges & Not for profit.

Rutherford Briant have recruited successfully for PEM since 2009. In fact PEM were the first client that we agreed a preferred supplier agreement within a month of the launch of the business, making the firm the epitome of our ethos of building long-term relationships with our clients. In this time we have successfully recruited multiple positions in each year across the full range of service lines including: Audit, Corporate Tax, Personal Tax, Payroll, Insolvency, Outsourced Accounts and Corporate Finance.



In late 2016, PEM approached us to assist with recruiting a Director/ Senior manager within the Corporate Finance Team. This was a highly specialised and pivotal role within a very highly regarded team, and so required a very high calibre individual.

The challenge in the Cambridge market was finding an individual with the right balance of experience and potential to develop into a more senior role. From the outset our approach was to look within the local market, but also to conduct a more national search of individuals with connections to Cambridge. This approach led to the identification of a potential relocator from the north of England with a Big 4 background, who following a vigorous interview process was offered the positions. Unfortunately for family reasons the relocation proved impractical.

However, in the meantime we had continued to source and target suitable individuals, and had identified a highly experienced individual: Philip Olangju. Philip possessed the right mix of skills, drive, client facing ability and personality to prove an excellent match for the role and was offered the position. He was also highly in demand in the market, having received three job offers from other firms. Rutherford Briant worked closely with PEM to ensure that the right offer was made to match the candidates personal circumstances and secure a successful recruit.
