A Candidate's Guide to the Recruitment Process

We receive countless questions from candidates, querying owing us money for gaining them their new role, or that perhaps a percentage of their salary will be taken from them and goes to us once they start in their new job. Recruitment is the process of identifying and hiring the most qualified candidate for a particular position.

In this blog, we'll explore each step of the recruitment process in more detail from a candidate’s perspective.

The Initial Job Search / Engaging With A Recruiter

The candidate establishes contact with a recruiter either by submitting their CV to an advertised role, reaching out directly or by being approached by the recruiter. This engagement would occur through LinkedIn, job boards, or personal referrals.

Screening / Initial Phone Call

The recruiter conducts an initial screening of the candidate to assess their qualifications, skills, and experience. This screening involves a phone call or video call, where the recruiter evaluates the candidate's suitability for potential job opportunities.

Once this is complete, the recruiter will send across a registration form which is required to be completed before sending off applications. Complying with GDPR, this information isn’t shared.

Job Matching & Application Submission

Based on the candidate's profile and the available job opportunities, the recruiter matches the candidate with relevant positions, and confirms the candidate is happy for their CV to be sent to these positions. The recruiter presents the candidate's CV to the company / companies highlighting their qualifications and suitability for the role.

Feedback from the candidates CV can take minutes to weeks, dependent on the company, the process and volume of applications.

The Interview Stage

This interview serves as an opportunity for the company to assess the candidate’s experience and discuss their interest in the role.

Dependent on the role that the candidate is interviewing for, the stages are either a 1 or 2 stage interview process. The first stage often involves a team’s call interview, with the second stage involving meeting with multiple interviewers, including hiring managers or team members. Questions asked would be technical, or situational questions to assess the candidate's fit for the role and the company culture.

Offer Stage

Following the successful completion of the interview, the candidate receives a job offer delivered by the recruiter, specifying the details of the position, salary, benefits, and further information.

Acceptance Of The Job

Once the candidate accepts their offer, they will receive their contract to sign as well as other relevant documentation from their new employer. During this process the recruiter is there to cover any queries or questions that the candidate may have.

Onboarding

The candidate goes through the onboarding process, which involves completing necessary paperwork, understanding company policies, meeting the team, and getting acquainted with their new role and responsibilities.

In conclusion, the recruitment process involves several steps and by following a structured recruitment process, companies can ensure that they are hiring the most relevant / qualified candidates for the job. At the end of the process, the candidate gains a new role with the help of a recruiter, without having to pay for this service – so why wouldn’t you use a recruiter to help you with your new role?
