Rutherford Briant Executive are recruiting for The Head of Warehousing and Logistics for a highly ambitious Retail organisation.  This is a key role which will underpin the growth strategy by increasing the capacity and efficiency of warehousing and logistics both locally and increasing footprint geographically.

The Head of Warehousing and Logistics is responsible for driving the efficiency, effectiveness, and strategic development of the warehouse operations and logistics functions. This role ensures seamless end-to-end operational performance, from inventory management to last-mile delivery, maintaining high standards of service, safety, and cost control.

As a key leadership role, the Head of Warehousing & Logistics will lead, mentor, and develop the warehouse and logistics teams, fostering a high-performance culture. They will collaborate cross-functionally to optimise processes, implement best practices, and support business growth while ensuring compliance with health & safety and industry regulations. This role plays a pivotal part in shaping the future of operational excellence and customer satisfaction.

  • Provide inspirational leadership to the function, taking responsibility for all Operational management.
  • Accountable for the daily operations of the transport, warehouse and logistics team, including planning, scheduling and coordinating shipments.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to keep us ahead of the curve by optimising workflows to reduce waste and improve productivity - ensuring you deliver safety, quality or efficiency advances within your operational scope
  • Create a culture of accountability, innovation, and teamwork.
  • Monitor performance and KPIs closely, resolving any issues as they arise.
  • Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies, creating data-driven solutions.
  • Develop and implement transportation and logistics strategies to optimise cost efficiency and service levels.
  • Lead the resolution of unexpected issues by ensuring appropriate solutions are implemented. Leverage the experience to improve future planning.
  • Ensure the workforce is skilled, effective, and labour control is measured and managed to achieve and exceed monthly targets; taking full responsibility for talent management and succession planning within your department.
  • Use data-based evidence to enhance productivity e.g. goods in/out and returns, cost-savings and quality standards; presenting operational performance against KPIs, with detailed and informed commentary where required.
  • Implement and maintain a stock management strategy that reduces liability, controls cost, improves order accuracy and achieves KPIs.
  • Take responsibility for Health & Safety, ensuring full compliance and proactive risk management.
  • Maintain flawless communications with the customer service team, highlighting any operational risks in a timely manner and provide detailed solutions to operational challenges.
  • Assess and present business cases (e.g. resource planning, equipment purchasing) to the Leadership Team, making informed and rounded cost-based decisions based on budget.
  • Provide valued input for the change in Warehouse Management System (WMS) platform and other I.T Projects.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in both warehouse operations and logistics.  You will also have operated at a strategic level and influenced change.
