I am currently recruiting for a Head of Commercial Operations to join a well-established and growing engineering business. Based on-site in Bury St Edmunds, this is a senior, client-facing role offering the opportunity to lead operational delivery, manage contracts, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

 

Responsibilities:

As Head of Commercial Operations, you will:
• Oversee day-to-day operational delivery across multiple projects, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance.
• Lead a team of contract managers and operational staff, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development.
• Develop and implement operational strategies, processes, and systems to drive continuous improvement and sustainable growth.
• Manage commercial operations, including contract management, bid and tender processes, and client negotiations.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to client specifications.
• Establish and monitor KPIs to measure operational performance, productivity, and client satisfaction.
• Maintain strict adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards across all projects.
• Collaborate closely with commercial, sales, and finance teams to align operational capacity with business development goals.
• Prepare and deliver operational performance reports and improvement plans to the executive team, reporting directly to the MD.

 

Requirements:

As Head of Commercial Operations, you will need:

  • Must be degree qualified in engineering or transferable fields.
    • Proven experience in commercial operations, contract management, and leadership within construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors.
    • Demonstrable experience managing bid and tender processes.
    • Strong knowledge of site-based operational delivery, including resource planning, supply chain coordination, and project oversight.
    • Ability to manage large-scale, complex operations and multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
    • Strong understanding of compliance, health & safety, and quality management standards.
